This birch is probably very old, but only stands 20' - 30' tall due to the severe weather at this altitude.  An interesting display showing the growth rates of high-elevation vs. mid-elevation birches can be seen at the nearby Visitor Center. The rocky trail can be seen climbing upwards to the right of this tree.
