Looking back down the Craggy Gardens trail as you reach the shelter.  Right before you get to the shelter, the trail enters a tunnel of Catawba rhododendrons (the large-leaved shrubs in the hedge). This is a heath bald, and during June the Rhododendrons put on a spectacular display of large, purple flowers that virtually cover the mountainside.
